Acknowledging Alarms

When an alarm is reported to the CAS, its state is "unacknowledged." This means that the alarm is new and that a user or the system has not acknowledged its presence. In the alarm view, unacknowledged alarms are identified by a colored bell representing the alarm state. When an alarm is acknowledged, the bell disappears. In the example the alarm is unacknowledged, as evidenced by the bell icon.

Example

Unacknowledged alarm

On a CygNet Studio/Vision screen, intrinsic tools can be configured to blink to indicate if the tool's point has an unacknowledged alarm.

Note: Alarm blinking is available only for points created using the CygNet Enhanced Point Scheme (Point Scheme number 1 - 15). The blinking feature is not available for points created using the default CygNet Standard Point Scheme (Point Scheme number 0).

You can acknowledge a single alarm, multiple alarms, visible alarms or all alarms. You can configure the CAS to automatically acknowledge based on certain criteria. See Alarm Auto Configuration for more information.

To Acknowledge an Alarm

  1. Click to select the alarm that you want to acknowledge.
  2. Right-click in the alarm view and select Acknowledge. If the alarm has already been acknowledged, a message identifying this condition is displayed. Click OK.

To Acknowledge Multiple Alarms

  1. Select the alarms that you want to acknowledge. Use Ctrl+Click to select non-contiguous alarms and use Shift+Click to select contiguous alarms. If you want to select all of the alarms in the service, right-click in the alarm view and click Select All.
  2. Right-click in the alarm view and click Acknowledge or Acknowledge Visible to acknowledge the selected alarms. If the alarm has already been acknowledged, a message is displayed. Click OK.
